Better than being actress’s husband: Nawab Malik’s daughter jabs NCP (SP) rival

NCP leader Nawab Malik’s daughter Sana Malik on Monday took a nasty swipe at Fahad Ahmad, husband of actor Swara Bhasker and her rival in the upcoming assembly election in Maharashtra. Malik filed her nomination papers from the Anushakti Nagar assembly constituency in Mumbai as a candidate of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP. She will take on Ahmad who joined the NCP faction led by Sharad Pawar on Sunday.
“I’m proud to be Nawab Malik’s daughter. If Nawab Malik’s daughter can become Anushakti Nagar’s daughter, then that is better than being the husband of an actress,” Sana Malik said.
Her father Nawab Malik, the sitting MLA from Anushakti Nagar, will contest the election from Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar, he had earlier said.
Sana Malik said that she had worked hard for the people of Anushakti Nagar and locals rallying behind her as she filed her nomination was proof of their support.
She also said that Fahad Ahmad wasn’t her enemy but just a political opponent. “This is politics. No one is an enemy. There are only opponents. Right now they are opponents,” the 36-year-old said of her 32-year-old rival.
“I won’t speak about Fahad, but I will say that people here know me not just as a daughter of Nawab Malik, but they will say that they know me as I go to their homes, have tea with them, listen to our problems,” Sana Malik said.
Nawab Malik is currently out on bail in a money laundering case after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in February 2022. He is alleged to have links with Dawood Ibrahim, the ,mastermind of the 1993 blasts in Mumbai.
He had previously accused the BJP of misusing agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI of pressuring political opponents. However, he later joined the NCP, which is a part of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance.
When asked if her supporters would feel confused as her father was once against the BJP and is now a member of the Mahayuti fold, Sana Malik said that they support Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who is responsible for carrying out development work in the area.
“He supported me wholeheartedly at that time. And why do people elect a leader – for getting their work done and for the development of the area. Politics has nothing to do with that. So, whoever was there at that time for Anushakti Nagar, I supported them, and so we are with Ajit Pawar,” she said.
Maharashtra Assembly elections will take place in a single phase on November 20 and the counting of votes will take place on November 23.
